adMISSION POSSIBLE September-December To Do List

SEPTEMBER

Calendar

•  Taking into consideration your schoolwork, sports and activities, block out time each week from now until December to work on applications

•  Note application due dates on your calendar so that you can work out a schedule to complete them on time

Applications

•  Gather applications for your final college list (either hard copy or downloaded)

•  Identify the essay questions for all your applications and put them on the adMISSION POSSIBLE essay grid (see http://admissionpossible.com/check-lists/ website for grid)

•  Decide on a focus for your applications, and topics for essay questions that will help admissions officers know who you really are. Use your Activities Resume to come up with ideas.

•  Brainstorm content for essays

•  Begin filling out any Rolling Admissions applications, and/or working on Early or your most important applications

College Counselor

•  Meet with your high school counselor to show him or her your final college list.

Teachers

•  If you haven’t already, meet with selected teachers to ask them to fill out the teachers recommendation forms.

Other Recommenders

•  Ask people other than teachers and the school counselor to write recommendations for you.

Letters Of Recommendation Packages

•  Give your high school counselor, teachers and/or other recommenders materials for Early applications including filled-out top part of forms, addressed/stamped envelopes, a list of the early colleges and their respective due dates, and activities resume. Some schools are now allowing counselors and teachers to write online recommendations. Check to see what your school is doing. (Lists of what to provide counselors, teachers and others who are recommending you can be found at http://admissionpossible.com/check-lists/

College Admissions Reps

•  Make final arrangements for any fall college interviewing trips

•  Meet any college rep of colleges on your list that comes to your high school

•  Attend any city meeting of colleges on your list

OCTOBER

Applications

Most colleges have early application deadlines that are at the end of October, while a few have deadlines as early as the middle of October. Check to see what your early application deadlines are.

•  Complete your early, rolling, or first choice school applications.

•  Make sure that your high school counselor, teachers and other recommenders are prepared to send off their recommendation packages for your early, rolling or first choice school applications.

College Admissions Reps

•  Make arrangements for any on-site or alumni interviews offered by colleges to which you are applying early

•  Meet any college rep of colleges on your list that comes to your high school

•  Attend any city meeting of colleges on your list

NOVEMBER

Applications

•  The UC and Cal State applications are due by November 30. Complete those applications on-line.

•  Continue completing other top-choice college applications, recycling essays (if you can) from applications already completed.

DECEMBER

Applications

•  Photocopy all pages of your applications before emailing or send them

•  Confirm that your SAT and/or ACT scores are sent by the College Board and/or the ACT group to each college

•  Have your transcript sent to each college

Make sure that your high school counselor has completed all of the School Report forms

Make sure that your recommenders have sent in their respective letters or forms

•  If you have not yet been contacted by colleges that offer interviews, call the admissions office to inquire how/when that will take place
